Spending a lot of time preparing for the upcoming group exhibition at Gallery Yido next week. The exhibition is from February 22nd till the 28th and here is a sneak peak at what I'm making right now.

My work is entitled 'mother' and I'm quite excited to see where it's going. It's nice to try something new and see how an idea develops from one thing to another.

Hand painted a set of teacups as a goodbye gift for someone I know for a long time. She's moving to Texas, USA and I hope she'll like it and think about me when she drinks coffee or tea.

Sometimes I feel like there are too many goodbyes in my life but you can't have hellos without goodbyes. So I'll look forward to seeing her again for that hello.

Isn't it interesting when random things come together unexpectedly and create a kind of unity? A friend gave me the Organic barley tea that taste like coffee so I went to the Kitchen to prepare it and found all these matching yellows! It's a bit dorky but I get excited with things like this.

Went to a cupcake cafe in MyungDong called 'goodovening' with a friend. I like their logo design and the cupcake I had called Caramel flower was yummy! I wish I can bake my own cupcakes & maccarons but alas I'm a poor baker.

It's a cold winter's morning but the sun was delightful today and these are some things by my room window.

Happy Black dragon year!

Here are some photos of the food I had for dinner last night. I really like Korean food but the best is when you get to share it with your family.

After dinner, we played a traditional Korean game called Yut nori which was a fun way to end the evening.

My favorite! Home made spicy Kimchi!

Another favorite is this cold Jelly fish salad marinated in sweet & sour mustard sauce.

Fresh raw oysters with sesame soy sauce. It's an interesting way of eating oysters instead of with lemon.

Sweet pumpkin Mochi rice cake as dessert!

Spending most of the time thinking about making new pins these days. It's going a bit slow since I had to do some test pieces here and glaze/kiln temperature is different from Sweden. All I can say is that some are inspired by my childhood with vintage style big eyed anime faces. ;-)

In the mean time, I painted two small coaster plates inspired by old vintage retro style patterns and drawings. They are available at .minini.

I want to share the apple girl plate after glazing and firing. The colors change after firing and turns somewhat deeper and translucent. When painting, I have to somewhat predict how the colors will change but you can never know for sure until you open the kiln.

It's a lengthy process overall but there is something wonderful and interesting about drawing on ceramic surfaces.

Finally, I've started working again on new pins at a ceramic studio here in Seoul!

Made about a batch of 60 pins today. It's always interesting to see the progression from initial stage to end result because right now they just look like some kind of cookie dough, BUT I see faces in them! It's a lot of work to polish/paint/glaze them one by one but I'm looking forward to seeing new faces and sharing them with others.

Also working on small plates, cup coasters, wind chimes. I really like drawing on ceramic surfaces. :)

Winter is great for drinking tea or coffee. I usually like my coffee lukewarm, half coffee+half cold milk with sugar (like 2 spoonful!). Koko used to tell me that I like 'baby coffee', that it's not adult coffee. But I do like espresso also.

Coffee drinking culture can be quite different from place to place. I think one of my favorite was in Buenos Aires, Argentina. My friend Natalia was a big time coffee drinker/cigarette smoker back then. We used to go around town looking for nice cafes & strange conversations with strangers. When you order coffee in Buenos Aires, you got a full set up of coffee, something sweet like cookie or chocolate, a small glass of water & orange juice, and ashtrays if you needed one. I really liked the combination of it all. I wonder if it's still like that or things have changed.

But when it comes to describing the act of taking coffee or tea drinking time with others, Swedish word 'FIKA' totally rules. :)

Pears at our family orchard are frozen and decaying but the peach tree promises next spring with its small flower buds. And it's always nice when snow falls and the world turn to a hazy white.

I got a new Wacom Bamboo tablet and it does wonders compared to the old one I had! Here is a first drawing I did with it. I need a lot of practice but it's a lot of fun!

It's getting cold in Seoul, stay warm~* (I'm wearing my wrist worms from Sandra right now just like in the drawing. It's cold in my room, brrrrr! )

Went to a workshop today and did a drawing on a plate. It was my first time drawing on plates and the paint they had was different from what I used before. Ceramic colors are hard to predict beforehand and I wonder how it will turn out after glazing & firing.

Whenever I travel, I like to visit the aquarium or the natural history museum. I'm drawn to tranquility driven by the illusion of being underwater or being surrounded by death.

Bibim Naeng Myun

Naeng Myun (냉면) is one of my favorite kind of noodle, and I was so happy to find it during my stay in Stockholm. I cooked Spicy Bibim Naeng Myun (비빔냉면) with squid for my friend Rhoda who kindly let me stay at her place. We ate a lot together, it's nice to cook for friends.

Today was my two little birds gallery opening day. Two Little birds is one of my favorite cafe in Gothenburg, Sweden with good coffee, nice atmosphere and art gallery space. Each month, they showcase different artist and I am very happy to share my work there during the month of July.

For this exhibit I made new ceramic pins, porcelain wall decoration paintings and illustrations. It was nice to meet friends and talk to visitors. Come visit if you are in Gothenburg, Sweden. ^_^

The photo above is my pet lovebird Bonbon cuddling up on my sweater sleeve. When I lived in Korea, she was the first to greet me in the morning. She was so small and light, and to feel her tiny heart beats and breathing under my palm used to make me feel happy because it took me a long time and patience (countless finger & hand bites, lovebirds bites are quite painful ) to gain her trust. With her, I learned that trust don't come easy but when it becomes the basis of any relationship, you find something truly amazing.

I couldn't bring her with me to Sweden and I miss her everyday.

Recently, I started a ritual of drawing something small on my hand. It's a way to remind myself of life, trying to protect myself from vice and weaknesses.

I'm not particularly interested in getting a tattoo but if I drew the same symbol everyday, will the repetition of the act itself bear similarity to why we long for permanence?

It's not about body modification but a longing for daily modification and renewal of the self.
